Xenofon Avlonitis received a BA in Economic Studies from the University of Piraeus in 1992 and an MSc in Business Finance from Brunel University, UK a year later. He began his professional career with Fulgor and Edrasis as treasurer and IRO.
Xenofon joined the Hellenic Capital Market Commission in 1997 in the Division of Studies, Monitoring the Capital Markets and International Relations. From 2003 to 2009, he was the Director of the Department of Listed Companies. From 2009 to 2019, he served as the Vice Chairman of the HCMC and from 2016 to 2019, he was the alternate to the HCMC’s Chair at the Board of Supervisors of the European Securities and Markets Authority.
From 2003 to 2019, he served as a Board Member at the Hellenic Accounting and Auditing Standards Oversight Board.
In 2006, he was the first and only Greek so far to receive a fellowship for the “Yale World Fellows Program”, a leadership-training program at Yale University.
Since 2011, he is a member of the Hellenic Corporate Governance Council.
Since 2019, Xenofon has been the Executive General Manager – Head of Compliance of Alpha Bank.
